A year-round resident of Marion, Massachusetts, Riseley primarily paints the landscape and seascape of the southeastern coastal region of Massachusetts and New England. Employing a playful, impressionistic style, her time spent outdoors in the natural world is clearly reflected in her work, which is created en plein air and in the studio.
Her paintings have been on exhibit at the Marion Art Center in Marion, MA, at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, MA, at annual art shows in Rowayton, CT, Watch Hill RI, and on Nantucket Island. She has professional affiliations with the Marion Art Center, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and Weir Farm Art Center where she was selected as April 2018 Artist-in-Residence at Weir Farm National Historic Site in Wilton, CT.
Kyle Riseley was born and raised in and around Westport, CT. Her visual memories are dominated by time spent wandering near her childhood home on Compo Parkway, and at Longshore, and Compo Beach. After graduating from Ithaca College, she spent the early part of her career in the publishing industry in New York City, (Prentice-Hall, Watson Guptill, McGraw-Hill) doing postgraduate design coursework at NYU and Parsons School of Design. She managed a freelance design business, Designs on Wooster, in Ridgefield, CT, before dedicating herself to education as a communications professional in independent schools focusing on photography and design. She began painting landscapes during summers on Martha’s Vineyard and has apprenticed with Bridgewater artist, Lori Zummo. An avid outdoors person and conservationist, Ms. Riseley served as an early Open Space park ranger for the Ridgefield Conservation Commission. As a landscape painter, Riseley’s time spent out of doors in the natural world is clearly reflected in her work. Her early career in design and photography have influenced the many ways she uses color, light and form to bring the viewer into her world of mossy habitats, sandy walkways, and marbled skies.
